Planet X — Board 2025/2026
Gavin Carr — Chair
Hey everyone! My name is Gavin and I’m a third year Astronomy student from Madrid, Spain. This year I’m the chair of Sirius A, which means I represent the association, manage the board & its meetings, and I make sure everything is running smoothly. I also lead the GMAs, and try to ensure they don’t go on for too long. Outside of my board duties I play basketball and I like cooking, reading, films, and spending time with my friends :) I also play the drums and my favourite snack from the snack hoek is the kipburger. If you want to have a chat feel free to come up to me! You can usually find me in the ISS (with a bapao and Dr Pepper most likely) or at most of our events. See you around!
Torsten van Drogenbroek — Secretary
Hello everyone! My name is Torsten van Drogenbroek, and I'll be your secretary this year. Hailing from the pancake-flat dutch countryside, I'm a third year student of the Bachelor of Astronomy and a big fan of anything mechanical. As such the beautiful TV mount in the ISS is one of my proud creations. I also have a big interest in the arctic, which is a place I would love to visit professionally. You can almost always find me in the ISS hacking away at all kinds of random errands, and the desk is my second home. I have grown to have a truly strong bond with the bapaos in the freezer, but all the while I still miss the authentic groninger eierbal, my favourite snack from Snack Hoek.
Tim J. Duker — Treasurer
Moi!
My name is Tim and I’m a second-year Astronomy student. I was raised in Assen, and I’m the youngest of the group at 19 years old. This year, I will be the treasurer of Sirius A, which means I will be in charge of all the finances.
When I’m not working on my board tasks, I’m either reading, watching Harry Potter, or fueling my passion for racing, specifically Formula 1. Since I’m from Assen, I’m also a big fan of the TT Assen, where over the past few years I’ve been helping as a volunteer, allowing me to follow all the action from up close.
Thijs Noordover — Commissioner of Internal Affairs & Vice Chair
Hello everyone! I’m Thijs, a third-year Astronomy and Physics student and this year’s Commissioner of Internal Affairs (and Vice Chair). My role revolves around supporting our committees, keeping the internal side of Sirius A running smoothly, and doing my best to make sure everyone feels at home in the association. I’m involved in quite a few Sirius A activities, and I somehow also ended up creating the “Cosmic Consumption Committee”, a very unofficial monthly food challenge that grew into a tradition faster than expected. It’s safe to say I love food, maybe a little too much. If i had to pick a favourite snack from the "snackhoek" i could not choose. But since it was CCC's first challenge, I would have to pick a frikandel When I’m not organising something, I like to hang arround in the ISS chatting, play sports, or playing Boardgames, try to defeat me in Catan ;) If you ever want to talk, need help with anything, or just want to join a food challenge, feel free to come up to me!
Mara Gliga — Commissioner of External Affairs
Hello hello everybody!! My name is Mara and I am a third year Astronomy student from Bucharest, Romania. I am the Commissioner of External Affairs this year, which means I am representing Sirius A to external parties like companies. My main responsibility is to make sure that we earn enough money to keep everything running smoothly and to have as much fun as we can ;). I also organise some excursions this year visiting some nice companies and I am looking forward to meeting more of you this way! Outside of board I like to read, cook and hang out with friends, discovering new favourite activities every week. My favourite snack from the snack hoek is also the kipburger and I have a special relationship with the Kinder Bueno we sell in the members room. I am always open to talk to everyone so if you ever spot me in the members room, on campus or around the city, feel free to say hi and tell me your worst joke!
Roan Anthony Boekhout — Commissioner of Educational Affairs
Hello everyone! My name is Roan Boekhout, I am a third year BSc Astronomy student. I am Dutch, but lived my whole life in the south of Norway, and then decided to pursue Astronomy here in Groningen! This year I am the Commissioner of Educational Affairs, which means I am here to represent Astronomy students and provide educational benefits for all our members. In my free time I am a singer, songwriter and artist. I also really enjoy photography, which is why you’ll often see me taking pictures at our events! And of course after a nice borrel, my favourite snack from the Snack Hoek is the eierbal. If you ever have any feedback or complaints about the programme, or have ideas for how Sirius A can help you on your academic journey, feel free to contact me! You’ll always find me at the Study Club, and sometimes in the members room enjoying a bowl of noodles.
Anamaria Bălăşescu — Commissioner of Public Relations
Hello! I’m Ana, a third year Astronomy student and the first Commissioner of Public Relations of Sirius A! My main responsibilities are taking care of our social media platforms, the announcement chat, and making sure the image of the association is as good as it can be: from the style of our content, to the way we present ourselves at events! You can find me in a bunch of committees, mostly the art oriented ones. I have been a member of MESSENGER since my first year, and now I am also part of CONTACT! Reading, writing, and drawing have been my favorite hobbies since I was young, so it means a lot to be able to do it for Sirius A! Also, the kipburger is my favorite thing from the snack hoek, and probably one of the best culinary experiences I’ve had in my life. I love nerding out about music and books, so if you ever see me around feel free to strike up a conversation!
